Story a Day Nineteen – Jimmy’s Mom

“I ain’t goin’.”

“Why not? Why ain’t you goin’ for the Lord’s sakes?”

“’Cos Jimmy ain’t goin’.”

“So you ain’t goin’, cos Jimmy ain’t goin’. That right?”

“Yea.”

“You allus gonna do what that Jimmy Wright does then?”

“Nope.”

“Cos, if that’s what you do, you ain’t gonna git nowhere, you know.”

“Don’t care.”

“You gonna have to get off yer ass, boy, or you gonna simply waste away.”

“Don’t care.”

“You’ll care alright when you feel the toe of my boot up it.”

“You ain’t gonna do that, now are you?”

“And who says not then?”

“I do, and all the folks round here says that too. You’re a mean old bastard, but you ain’t got no balls, that’s for sure.”

“What folks says that then?”

“Everyone round town.”

“Everyone?”

“I still ain’t goin’.”

“Anyways, I’m goin’ out meself. Down to Ronnie’s.”

“Gittin’ yersel’ boozed up agin’, then, I guess?”

“Nah, I’m meetin’ a friend there. A new friend.”

“Not some scruffy ole bitch like the last time?”

“Don’t talk about Henrietta like that. She’s s fine woman.”

“Fine dog, I reckon. Anyways, who is it this time?”

“Someone you don’t know, anyways. This is a nice lady.”

“What, a nice laydee, in this town? That you know? You pissing me?”

“How d’you know. I have friends you don’t know. Good friends Nice people.”

“Bollocks. You only know a bunch of wasters. That’s the truth. No-one in their right mind who was ‘nice’ would have anythin’ to do with you, that’s fo’ sure.”

“Sure do. I knows enough ‘bout you to know there ain’t no nice person goin’ out with you on a Friday night.”

“Who is she then?”

“Ain’t sayin’.”

“Why not?”

“Cos I ain’t, that’s why not.”

“Yea, but I’m goin’ out tonight, and you ain’t.”

“Might go out now.”

“Though you said you was stoppin’ in.”

“Changed my mind.”

“Why you changed your mind then?”

“Cos.”

“Where you goin’ then?”

“Might go to Jimmie’s. Or Ronnie’s.”

“Why you goin’ to Ronnie’s then?”

“Might see some talent, that’s why?”

“Ain’t no talent down Ronnie’s, that’s for sure.”

“You’re tellin’ me.”

“Go to Jimmie’s. He on his own tonight?”

“Might be. I think his Mom’s goin’ out.”

“Where she off to then.”

“Dunno, maybe Ronnie’s. Sometimes she goes there on a Friday.”

“Oh.”

“Hey, wait a minute. You’re not meeting Jimmie’s Mom at Ronnie’s are you?”

“Me? Jimmy’s Mom? No way.”

“That’s it. You and Jimmie’s Mom. Well, I never…”

“There’s nothin’ wrong with Jimmie’s Mom. She’s kinda cute.”

“I might go to Jimmie’s then. See what’s happenin’.”

“I’m off to Ronnie’s. See what’s happenin’.”
